Our program continue to serve local organizations that require the assistance of the Rotary Cares program. Though we continue to  provide donations to veterans groups as well as homeless and battered shelters, this had become somewhat onerous as most of these organizations required cases of different product and yet we were managing truckloads of palleted goods. This required frequent trips to the warehouse for small distributions. To streamline our operation and magnify the impact of the distributions, we aligned ourselves with Giving the Basics (hygiene hub for 75 organizations and 350 schools) and Avenue of Life (to empower low-income families/individuals to be self-sustained and independent). When considered together, these two marvelous entities dispense essential goods to over 125 nonprofits. Mike and I provide them with pallets of product and in turn they distribute cases where needed.

Example:
Avenue of Life deals with a predominantly Hispanic population who were not getting Covid vaccinated due to communication barriers and mistrust of the health department. In the past 3 weeks, Rotary Cares provided Avenue of Life with 30 pallets of personal care items and food. This allowed a distribution that served  over 800 families while this organization was simultaneously giving over 1800 vaccinations.

Truckloads keep rolling into the warehouse, cases and pallets are dispersed to thoughtful humanitarian agencies and the impact of Rotary Cares is felt throughout the Kansas City area.

Our next project is to deliver goodies to First Responders in the Kansas City area. Any Rotarians that wish to volunteer time or assistance, please have them contact Mike Myers or Brad Vaughan.  Lifting of the mask mandated should facilitate the volunteering process.
