As Hurricane Dorian moves over the United States, the devastation is already being revealed in the Bahamas, home of Rotary International Immediate Past President Barry Rassin. Rotary partners Heart to Heart International and ShelterBox, just to name two, are already geared up for the relief efforts. With the increased occurrence and impact of natural disasters in recent years, The Rotary Foundation has setup a specific fund for these events.
We still need volunteers to be at KCI airport 9/24-9/27 to welcome our guests to Kansas City for the Zone Institute, and to transport them to the OP Sheraton to check in. Click here to find the times needed and sign up. Please!
KC Rotary Reads! is a product of the Greater Kansas City Rotary Committee. Our club has received approval from both SMSD and BVSD at the district level, and we hope you will join the fun the week of September 23-27.
We are hoping this may be a first step to a more in-depth relationship on an ongoing basis. We are working to coordinate dates and times that work best for fourth grade teachers. Volunteers will be reading a book that incorporates the Four-Way Test into a project that a group of kids are trying to tackle.
We have also asked for any applicable security procedures for entering the school and classroom. Presumably most of our members will require photo identification at a minimum. We plan to have our readers arrive at the school 15 minutes before their scheduled time. We understand some schools may require a background check beforehand. There will be a $20 fee per volunteer to cover the cost of our T-shirts and the book to be used. Details on sign-up procedure and fee collection will be posted in this space as they are nailed down, in the meantime raise your hand by contacting our commitee chair Lee Cross at 913.710.9761 or email: lcross@gmolaw.com
The next Women in Rotary social will be held on Thursday, September 19th from 5:30-7:00pm at Ignite Wood Fire Grill, 8721 Ryckert St, Lenexa KS 66219. This social is co-hosted by Susan Mong and Joy Broils. The Women in Rotary socials are a great way to meet women from other Rotary clubs in the KC metro area. We hope you can join us!
