Many members have been waiting for a return to the business corridor of the community, and at last we’ve arranged it. OUR FIRST MEETING IN 2022 will be Monday January 17 back in the SEDONA MEETING ROOM in the front west entry to the Doubletree.
Things will be a little bit different but a little bit familiar too! A hot meal, but fewer choices. A familiar set-up, but we’re shooting for forty members as we find our way back to our new normal. And billing as in the past, which some of you may like a refresher on. Here it is:
Each quarter, everyone (except Rule 85) will be billed $20 per week for the number of meetings in that quarter whether the member attends or not. This was the club’s billing practice prior to the pandemic and was resumed with the current quarter’s billing which was sent to members in October.
Many are called but YOU have been CHOSEN! See you at the DOUBLETREE in 2022!
Here’s an interesting thought from author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of the Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. “The word “philanthropy" is not a word I have ever loved or identified with.”
She said it has become associated with wealthy donors trying to solve other people’s problems, and feels no kinship with these people. “Somewhere along the line, this big, lovely word had shriveled to describing the humanitarian impulses of less than 1% of the world’s population,” she wrote.
We think if you’re a Rotarian, you’re a philanthropist. And that is reflected by your support, however small, of Rotary International. Every Rotarian, Every Year. And here’s how:
Johnson County Government and county partners formally opened the new Johnson County Square with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 9. In addition, the Rotary Tree Grove of the County Square was dedicated. The open space sits in the heart of Olathe, at the corner of Cherry and Santa Fe streets, across from the new Johnson County Courthouse. Fourteen Rotary clubs contributed to the Tree Grove Project.
It is with sadness that we report the passing of Overland Park Rotary member Mary Davidson. Mary was a Past President of the club, and the first female president.
Services will be this Friday, Dec. 10 at 9:30 am at The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah, 12320 Nall, Overland Park, KS 66209.
Her obituary can be found at this link. There is also a link in the obituary to attend the services virtually in you cannot be in person.
