Rotary Reads and Rotary Cares needs more willing hands… members to set up and manage various spreadsheets, make phone calls to schools, do some PR work, etc.
These tasks run off and on throughout the year but DO NOT necessarily require Heavy Lifting!!
Bring your willing heart rate on Monday, Jan. 9th after lunch.
The Gates Foundation annual letter gives a shout-out to Rotarians! Here it is, as quoted under Bill Gates summary that addresses polio:
No update on polio would be complete without a big thank-you to Rotary International. They were part of this effort long before the Gates Foundation was. Since we became partners on eradication, we’ve jointly raised $1.8 billion for this work, and there’s more to come. Rotarians also lead massive vaccination campaigns to reach children all over the world. Sometime in the next few years, when polio is finally eradicated, my first phone call will be to thank and congratulate the team at Rotary International.

Fond Farewells to Two Former Members
Longer-term OP Rotarians will want to recall some happy memories about two former members who have recently died. Bob Stephan kept us informed and kept us laughing during his tenure, which spanned years after his 16-year service as Attorney General for the State of Kansas. Larry Winn was our attorney /education expert, serving on the Shawnee Mission School Board and boosting the original plans for Johnson County Community College.
Rest in the peace you two have rightfully earned, gentlemen, and thank you for your service.
