THIS WEEK'S MEETING
This Week's Meeting
Wednesday, March 25, 2026 - 11:30 am

This Week's Speaker is Dr. Michael Schumacher, Superintendent, Shawnee Mission Public Schools.
My own personal journey shows how incredible Shawnee Mission is. I began my career teaching science and coaching athletics in 1998. From the outside looking in, I always admired the work that the SMSD was doing and desired to somehow become a part of this community.

While completing my doctorate, my field experience was in the Shawnee Mission School District. To me, the SMSD was IT! I never dreamed that I would be given the honor to serve as this district’s superintendent. I promise the SMSD community that I will not let you down and I will work tirelessly every day to meet our strategic goals and serve our community. I will work and fight for what our students need to succeed in the classroom, and to ensure that our community has the finest public school system in the state, the region, and the country.

The Future of Food: Innovative KC Nonprofit Brings Fresh Food to Black NeighborhoodsKanbe’s Markets

The Problem
The US discards more food than any other country in the world. Approximately 120 billion pounds—or 40% of the food supply intended for people to eat ends up in the landfill annually. 13.5% of US households are food insecure, and since the pandemic, numbers have continued to rise. Over 1.2 million residents in the Kansas City metro live ½ mile or further from fresh food. Despite the evident need for fresh produce in these neighborhoods, for-profit supermarkets

Who We Are
Kanbe’s Markets is a 501(c)3 non-profit on a mission to build a more inclusive food system by transforming food loss into food access. Our goal is to eliminate food insecurity while simultaneously reinvesting into our communities and reducing food waste. 2026 CRAWFISH FESTIVAL

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Crawfish Festival and its long history of giving back to our local community. As Sponsorship Chair, I’m asking each club member to tap into your personal network and help us identify businesses or individuals who may be willing to support this year’s event as a sponsor.

Our most successful sponsorships come from personal connections. A warm introduction from you to a business owner or professional contact is far more effective than a cold call.

How you can help
Please identify three to five contacts—local business owners or individuals—and share the sponsorship opportunities with them.
Sponsorship levels range from:

  • Copper Sponsor ($250) – helping provide tutoring for a youth in care
  • Diamond Sponsor ($10,000) – supporting CASA staff positions

Thank you for helping make this 25th-anniversary Crawfish Festival our most successful one yet!
