SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
MARCH SERVICE PROJECTS

"OMG sweetheart, you're STILL wearing that?!" - said Carol to Fred just today ....
Connections to Success
Spring is near!  Let's clean out those closets and donate your used - but not used up - WORK clothes to Connections to Success in KC, MO. They need MEN’s and WOMEN’S clothes for OFFICE work or for OUTDOOR work, shoes, accessories, belts, purses, etc. Leave your donations on the back table during a meeting OR, make it easy for Connie, drop them off anytime at Dana’s office (Visit OP) for the March Clothing Drive Project.
Visit Overland Park (OP Chamber Building), 9001 W. 110th St. Suite 100,Overland Park, KS 66210

Plant a seed, pull a weed, smell some dirt, it won't hurt!
WIC Community Garden Spring Kickoff Event!
It may still feel like winter outside, but the days are getting longer and the sun is eventually going to melt away this snow! By March 26th we’ll all be ready to spend some much needed time outside, working in the soil, planting seeds and plants. Bring the whole family along!
Come along on Tuesday March 26th 7:30 - 9:30 AM  to toil happily in the Community Garden at 11872 S. Sunset, Olathe KS  66061.
No need to RSVP. Tools and gloves provided. No experience necessary. Children always welcome.

Important update on our book project!
The OP Rotary Reads Book Drive initiative is making a significant donation to the Johnson County Christmas Bureau since our Book Drive is losing our current storage space as of the end of March.  We will not need assistance with sorting books or distribution as noted previously in the eSpoke.   JCCB is taking the bulk of our materials and food stuffs, the organization will provide the transport and volunteers to take our inventory.  Will has found a home for any books or office supplies the JoCo Christmas Bureau is not taking.
(A tip 'o the hat to Larry Bigus, Mike Meyers, and Will Gladhart, for a quick reaction on this!)

A thank you note
Received from former member Melynn Sight

Two years ago, the OP Rotary foundation was kind enough to give me a Rotary Grant to begin to develop a curriculum to extend the girls program - for a boys anti-bullying program at University Academy.  The curriculum is final, we piloted the course in 2018 and it has officially launched as of January of this year. Hooray!
It is going really well – and the gentleman who is teaching it is crazy about the impact it is having on these nine-year-old boys.
I am attaching an executive summary of the program for your information so you can know where your grant money went.
It is a wonderful use of funds to help change a culture at a school with kids who can really use the attention, the ideas, and a different way to think about the world.
If I can answer any other questions for you please let me know, if not I just want to send a big thank you for what you did to help this curriculum become a reality.-   Melynn Sight
