WEEKLY MEETING INFORMATION
MONDAY IS MINGLE MONDAY, NO FORMAL MEETING!

but here's whatcha CAN do ....

Meet up with a Rotary buddy for coffee, lunch, happy hour, a walk through a garden, a splash in a pool, take a FUTURE ROTARIAN (like, under age 12...?) to a playground and wish you could still hang upsidedown like that....(try it.)
Meet up with the random Rotarians who still will convene at Trofi restaurant at noon out of longstanding (pleasant) habit.
Attend another Rotary meeting besides OP's!
Spend some time on the Rotary International website, you'll learn something new!
Google POLIO.  Learn something new!

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
MORE WAYS to get involved, be of service!
As you have probably heard by now, area Director Larry Dimmitt and his wife Lois will be hosting the Zone Institute IN OVERLAND PARK September 25-29. This is a fabulous opportunity to show off our district - and we would love for YOU to be a part of this event!
There are a couple of ways to get involved:

1. Attend the All Club Luncheon at the Overland Park Sheraton - this event will be Friday, September 27 - Noon to 1:45 pm. The luncheon speaker will be Past RI Director Larry Lunsford. Larry is from our neighboring district 6040 in Missouri, and he is currently the Aide to the RI president Mark Maloney. Cost of the luncheon is $45. All Rotarians are welcome! You can register HERE.

2. Volunteer Opportunities:
  • We need volunteers to be at KCI airport 9/24-9/27 to welcome our guests to Kansas City. Click here to find the times needed and sign up.
  • We are also looking for volunteers to be part of a Hospitality Committee during the Institute. If you are interested, please contact Chuck Udell. We'll have more details soon.
  • The Zone Institute Planning Committee is looking for local assistance in creating table decorations reflecting the theme "The Future is Ours." If you have ideas on how this could be accomplished for little to no cost, please email Mandy.
  • Volunteer for Rotary Reads - a fun one-day project to read to elementary school students and introduce them to the Rotary ideas of Service Above Self and the 4-Way Test. This project is being completed during the week of Zone. For a $20 per person donation, volunteers will receive a t-shirt to wear while they read, the book to leave in the classroom and 4-way test coins to give to the students. Any excess funds collected will go back into community literacy efforts. Volunteers can sign up online at www.KCRotaryReads.org (flyer attached)
Aug. 19, Foundation Board Meeting 1-2 PM after lunch meeting

Sept. 2, Rotary Runners, join the fun at the Leawood Labor Day 5K on Sep 02, 2019! This is Leawood Rotary’s fundraiser, and you can join the team “Rotary Runners”. District Governor Jason is running as well!  Sign up at:   https://runsignup.com/Race/KS/Leawood/LeawoodLaborDay5K

Volunteer at the GoGirlRun on August 25 and help raise funds for PolioPlus! We will receive $25 per volunteer, and if we have 20 or more, it jumps to $30 per volunteer! Sign up at http://gogirlrun.com/volunteer/ and be sure to select “Rotary Clubs of Eastern Kansas” under the “Are you volunteering on behalf of a specific group?” question. There are a variety of opportunities available, but the RACE DAY – Water Stations option is preferred. We can easily raise $600 or more while having fun and supporting a great event!
