After graduating from KU in 1982, Tom began an eight-year career in the banking industry including
serving as Senior Vice President at Mark Twain Bank at their downtown location. He left his banking
career in 1989 and became General Manager of Rodrock Development, a position he held for 30 years.

In his retirement he continues leading recovery meetings in prisons and transitional living communities
but now devotes much of his time to the Do Good for Erin Foundation. A foundation that was started in
in 2019 in honor of his daughter Erin, a former domestic violence counselor who was shot and killed at
the First Friday’s event in the Crossroads District in 2019. This foundation focuses on helping fund
domestic violence shelters throughout the metro area including Rose Brooks and Friends of Yates. Do
Good for Erin helped fund a transitional living house in Northeast Kansas City in partnership with Healing
House, Inc. in 2024. They are currently in the process of renovating a second house with Friends of
Yates also to provide transitional living for women coming out of domestic violence.
