Christy Forquer is Chairman of the committee planning the Olathe Community Prayer Breakfast on Veterans’ Day, November 11. It will be held in the Cook Center on the campus of MidAmerica Nazarene University. The breakfast will begin at 7am with a program ending by 9am.

Christy says, “This year we as a committee are trying to step it up just a notch—we have contracted a nationally recognized speaker, and one I am thrilled to have with us on Veterans Day as a decorated veteran. Her name is Tammie Jo Shults. She was one of the Navy’s first F/A-18 Hornet pilots. After a very successful military career, she became a commercial pilot for Southwest Airlines. It was Captain Shults who landed the Southwest Flight 1380 back in April of 2018 after a catastrophic explosion occurred losing one engine and one person’s life, while she heroically landed the plane, saving the remaining 148 passengers. She’s an incredible lady—so engaging—and what a story she has to tell!  It’s also special to know that she is a MNU graduate, and has partnered with Garmin on a number of occasions, testing of their aeronautical products. She appreciates Olathe and loves coming back when she can.
