The OP Rotary Foundation provided a grant to help sponsor the Shawanoe Elementary School Running Club. Last week was "graduation day" and they did a mile run. "The determination and joy in many of the student's faces was well worth standing out in the cold to cheer them on," said Barbara Kopack Hill. Bar Sullivan added, " The Shawnee Mission Northwest High School Cross Country Coach said they have previously not had any students coming from Shawanoe Elementary in their Cross Country program. I am sure this program exposed these students to running sports and the Coach, and will encourage some of them to participate in high school running sports. I also spoke to Jeanette Metzler from the Advent Health Foundation, and this is a targeted program that they will continue at Shawanoe in the spring."
