MIKE MEYER AND HIS TRUCK

Mike Meyer and his truck are still at it!  Last week he moved 3 loads of soap, toothpaste and cleaning materials, part going to our warehouse and most of it going to Giving The Basics.  At a total of 54,000 pounds, it's good to have a forklift!

Giving the Basics is a nonprofit that distributes personal care and hygiene products, most of which are not covered by government assistance programs, to hundreds of nonprofit organizations and schools throughout the KC area.  These products end up helping low-income families, battered women, veterans, senior citizens and the mentally ill among others.

If you know of an agency or organization that needs personal care supplies, please refer them directly to Giving the Basics at https://www.givingthebasics.org/ where they can register to receive products. If you have need more information, please contact Mike Meyer at 913-244-8200.

A Coronavirus Response from the Foundation!
Thanks to the Overland Park Rotary Foundation, you have a special opportunity to help out our neighbors in need during this COVID-19 crisis!

The Foundation is challenging Club members to match their $5,000 donation to the "Project 1020 Cold Weather Shelter" with contributions in any amount.  Club members are encouraged to make a donation to the Foundation by April 13, and designate it for "Project 1020".  We will send the collected funds to Project 1020 from the Club. Please make your donation online at
https://portal.clubrunner.ca/4405/Page/online-bill-pay

Project 1020 is an organization that has been operating a cold weather shelter in Lenexa with 30 beds for people who are homeless. The shelter is full every night. The shelter was scheduled to cease operations on April 1, but the Lenexa City Council last week authorized the shelter to continue operating through the end of the COVID-19 emergency order.

Support from the OP Rotary will help provide food and much-needed supplies for the cold weather shelter during this unanticipated extension.

FAMILY OF ROTARY
The Rotary grapevine has reported news on Dick Bond's ongoing struggle with his health.  He is now back in a rehab facility and still, of course, on dialysis as well as receiving various rehab efforts.  Dick, you've rebounded from setbacks before, we need you to keep up that pattern.

We've also heard from a few challenged members this week who have chosen NOT to let the general membership know of their travails.  We honor their requests, always, but why don't you reach out to your particular Rotary buddies? Phone calls are just nice, aren't they?

Also, we have shop and drop volunteers.  If you'd rather not get out and would like a friend to run a shopping errand for you, make your wishes known:  Carol 816/806-0242.

Change our response in every instance.
But if you're hurting, do your part.
We want to know what's on your heart.
